EDRLab Sustainability Report 2025
Since 2024, the European Digital Reading Lab has begun reporting its actions in terms of contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), through its commitment to promoting open standards, enhancing accessibility, and developing the digital reading ecosystem. Below are the key aspects of EDRLab’s 2025 initiatives that align with specific UN sustainability goals:
- Quality education (Goal 4).
The organisation’s advocacy for open standards enhances the accessibility of educational resources, ensuring inclusive and equitable education for all. Furthermore, projects like Qualebook directly create actionable resources for upskilling professionals.
- Decent work and economic growth (Goal 8).
By supporting the digital publishing industry, EDRLab is instrumental in creating job opportunities and fostering economic growth within this sector. Our emphasis on digital production and distribution technologies empowers businesses to adapt to the ever-evolving market landscape.
- Industry, innovation, and infrastructure (Goal 9).
Our efforts to develop non-proprietary technologies are crucial to promoting innovation in digital reading. Our work supports the creation of resilient infrastructures, encourages sustainable industrialisation, and nurtures innovation across the digital landscape.
- Reduced inequalities (Goal 10).
In a significant move to support developing countries, EDRLab has implemented a 50% reduction in License and Certification Program (LCP) fees. This initiative aims to bolster educational and cultural initiatives in these nations, acknowledging their unique economic challenges and promoting greater accessibility.
- Partnerships for the goals (Goal 17).
As a membership association and a hub for collaboration and knowledge sharing, EDRLab emphasises the importance of partnerships within the digital publishing community. These collaborations aim to achieve shared objectives, particularly in advocating for policies that promote open standards and innovations.
- Sustainable cities and communities (Goal 11).
By championing digital accessibility and equitable access to digital content, we are dedicated to creating sustainable, inclusive communities. Our efforts significantly enhance the quality of life for individuals across various regions.
In summary, EDRLab’s initiatives and strategic focus contribute to a sustainable digital reading ecosystem. By aligning its efforts with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, EDRLab aims to positively influence education, economic growth, and innovation worldwide. We’re grateful for the opportunity to play a role in these important areas.
