In the constantly evolving world of publishing, it is paramount to understand how people read, what audiences expect, and the fundamental nature of the “book” in the digital age. It is furthermore crucial to gain access to the technical aspects that underpin the reading experience.
This ThinkPub conference will offer a comprehensive and high-level overview of the key intellectual and technical components that define and shape the digital reading ecosystem today.

Knowing, leading, and innovating
The day’s program will feature a mix of individual presentations (approximately 45 minutes each, including Q&A) and a final strategic roundtable, as well as ample time for networking and high-level discussion.
1. How we read now. We will explore the cognitive, social, and cultural dynamics of contemporary reading. We will examine the strategic choices being made for content consumption—be it on print, screen, or via audio—and analyse the fundamental research provided by academics. This research is crucial for making evidence-based decisions about content format and promotion.
2. Serving reader expectations. This section will bring leading industry platforms and publishers to the stage to discuss operational strategies. How do major players meet, measure, and anticipate the evolving demands of their readership? We will analyse what drives the development of platforms and content discovery mechanisms.
3. Enhancing reading experiences. We will focus on the cutting edge of technology and user experience. Invited experts will demonstrate how innovation in tools and data analysis can transform passive reading into an active, enriched, and personalised experience. This segment focuses on actionable technological insights that can be implemented in the near future.
